Regular search and rescue training is part of our operation. In this exercise a simulated large earthquake measuring 8.4 on the Richter scale, 15km deep was reported. Reports had been received of significant damage across the upper south and lower north islands.
The team was tasked to carry out a search and rescue operation after a police unit had discovered the local community pool building had suffered significant damage and a partial internal collapse. There had been initial reports of a missing community group who were gearing up for a family day in the area and they were believed to be inside the structure.
4x4 training provides our team with the skills and knowledge to handle any terrain, whether on road, gravel/shingle, mud and slips, cut outs, undulating terrain or safe water crossings
Training in swift water provides our team with an understanding of rivers and a healthy respect for the power of moving water. This understanding helps to minimise some of the danger and provides the team with the ability to work with it.
